Car sun film is a layered polyester sheet that sticks to the inside of your windows. The old films were just coloured plastic. Glass looked dark but did almost nothing about heat. Newer films have carbon or ceramic particles in them, and these block heat and UV while you can still see clearly through the glass.
People usually say tint, but heat control film is the better name. The film is there to keep heat out, not to make your windows black.
Why cars get so hot in India
Ordinary car glass lets most of the sun’s infrared rays pass through, and infrared is the part you feel as heat. Park a car in the sun during an Indian summer and the inside gets hot in a few minutes. The steering wheel burns your hands, the seat belt buckle is too hot to hold, and the AC takes ages to make the cabin comfortable.
Sunlight also brings UV rays. Over the years they fade your dashboard, crack the leather and make the seat fabric look old. They hit your skin too, on every drive, even when the sky is cloudy.
What the film does for you
Cooler cabin. The film cuts the infrared heat coming in through the glass. You feel the difference when the sun falls on your arm or lap while driving.
Lighter load on the AC. Less heat inside means the AC cools the car faster and doesn’t need to work as hard. This can save a little fuel, mostly in city traffic.
UV protection. A good film blocks nearly all UV rays. Your skin gets protected and the interior fades slowly.
Less glare. Bright light from the road and from other cars makes your eyes tired. The film softens it, so long drives are easier.
Privacy and some safety. People outside can’t see what you have kept in the car. If a window breaks, the film also helps hold the pieces together. It does not replace safety glass, though.
Is sun film legal in India?
Yes, but there are limits. I
Front and rear windshield: at least 70% VLT
Side windows: at least 50% VLT
What Sunkool film gives you
Sunkool is a Nagpur brand that makes heat control film for cars. Here is what that means for you as a car owner.
Heat control without dark glass. Sunkool films are made with multi-layer nano ceramic technology. They are built to cut heat and UV and still keep the view clear. That matters if you want to stay within the VLT limit and still see well at night.
Options for your car and budget. There are two series, Foundation and Signature. You can choose based on how much heat protection you want and how much you want to spend. Ask for the technical sheet of the shade you like, so you can compare VLT, heat rejection and UV numbers yourself.
Is it worth the money?
Yes, you get a more comfortable ride, a better-protected interior, less sun on your skin and a cabin that cools quicker. It counts even more if your car sits outside in the sun for most of the day. What matters is buying a genuine, legal ceramic film and getting it fitted properly. The cheap dyed film is the one people end up regretting.
